Chris Sprouse 1966, comic book artist, Sprouse launched his career in mainstream comics in 1989, his first credited work being a Chemical King story in an issue of DC Comics' Secret Origins. He then did a Two-Face story for Batman Annual #14 and then moved on to the limited series Hammerlocke. Sprouse then took on the sci-fi series Legionnaires, featuring teenaged versions of the characters in the Legion of Super-Heroes series, and eventually moved on to a number of one-shot and fill-in issues before illustrating a Star Wars mini-series, Splinter of the Mind's Eye, for Dark Horse Comics. He then worked for Extreme Studios as the regular penciller of New Men, and in 1997, Sprouse drew several issues of Supreme, scripted by Alan Moore for the same publisher. After Supreme ended, a year later he and Moore created Tom Strong for America's Best Comics, for which Sprouse won two Eisner Awards in 2000, for Best Single Issue and Best Serialized Story. Sprouse was also the penciller on the 2004 Ocean mini-series, written by Warren Ellis and published by DC Comics. In 2007, Ocean was optioned for film. In 2006, he began pencilling Wildstorm's Midnighter ongoing series, a spin-off of The Authority.

Lou Darvas 1913, cartoonist, He received the National Cartoonist Society Sports Cartoon Award for 1963 and 1967 for his work. He also authored a book called "You Can Draw Cartoons", published in 1960 by Doubleday. He was the author of a daily comic strip called "Half Nelson" for the Chicago Sun-Times Syndicate for a year before returning to Cleveland Press in 1946.

Dave Stevens 1955, comic book artist, most famous for creating The Rocketeer comic book and film character, and for his pin-up style "glamour art" illustrations, especially of model Bettie Page. He was the first to win Comic-Con International's Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award in 1982, and received both an Inkpot Award and the Kirby Award for Best Graphic Album in 1986. His first professional comic work was inking Russ Manning's pencils for the Tarzan newspaper comic strip and two European Tarzan graphic novels in 1975 (he later assisted Manning on the Star Wars newspaper strip). Starting in 1977, he drew storyboards for Hanna-Barbara animated TV shows, including Super Friends and The Godzilla Power Hour where he worked with comics and animation veteran, Doug Wildey. Ed Piskor 1982, alternative comics artist, best known for his artistic collaborations with underground comics pioneers Harvey Pekar of American Splendor fame, and Jay Lynch who illustrates Garbage Pail Kids. He has a cult following amongst minicomic fans with his series Deviant Funnies and Isolation Chamber.

Richard W. "Dick" Sprang 1915, comic book artist, penciler, best known for his work on the superhero Batman during the period fans and historians call Golden Age of Comic Books. Sprang was responsible for the 1948 redesign of the Batmobile and the original design of the Riddler, who has appeared in film, television and other media adaptations. Sprang's Batman was notable for its square chin, expressive face and barrel chest. From the late 1930s to the early 1940s, Sprang continued to work as a freelance illustrator, primarily for such pulp magazines as Popular Detective, Popular Western, Phantom Detective, G-Men, Detective Novels Magazine, Crack Detective and Black Hood Detective/Hooded Detective, for which last he also wrote some stories. Between 1937 and 1938, Sprang provided assistance on the King Features Syndicate comic strips Secret Agent X-9 (layouts) and The Lone Ranger (pencil assists). In 1938, he also wrote briefly for the Lone Ranger radio series. With Norman Fallon and Ed Kressey, he co-founded the studio Fallon-Sprang. The studio as a comics packagers for such "supermen" features as "Power Nelson" (introduced in Prize Comics #1, March 1940) and "Shock Gibson"; "human interest" features such as "Speed Martin"; and the "interplanetary" feature "Sky Wizard" and detective feature "K-7" (both introduced in Hillman Periodicals' Miracle Comics #1, Feb. 1940. Sprang submitted art samples to DC Comics editor Whitney Ellsworth, who assigned him a Batman story in 1941. Sprang's first published Batman work was the Batman and Robin figures on the cover of Batman #18 (Aug.-Sept. 1943), reproduced from the art for page 13 of the later-published Detective Comics #84 (Feb. 1944). Sprang's first original published Batman work, and first interior-story work, appeared in Batman #19 (Oct.-Nov. 1943), for which he penciled and inked the cover and the first three Batman stories, and penciled the fourth Batman story, inked by Norm Fallon. Like all Batman artists of the time, Sprang went uncredited as a ghost artist for Kane. Sprang thereafter worked almost entirely on Batman comics and covers and on the Batman newspaper strip, becoming one of the primary Batman artists in the character's first 20 years. Pat Boyette 1923, comic book artist best known for two decades of work for Charlton Comics, where he co-created the character The Peacemaker. For a brief period in 1968, Boyette drew issues of the DC Comics aviator series Blackhawk.

Ernie Chan 1940, particularly known for his work on the Marvel Comics version of Conan the Barbarian, although he has also worked for other publishers such as DC Comics, with a long tenure on Batman and Detective Comics. He studied with John Buscema, and also worked with him as the inker on Conan during the 1970s. He also inked the art of Buscema's brother Sal on The Incredible Hulk. Later, Chan pencilled several issues of Conan and Doctor Strange, and worked on Kull the Destroyer in 1977 and Power Man in the 1980s. For DC Comics, he did the Claw the Unconquered series. Chan was also a cover artist.

Jesse Marsh 1907, comic book and animation artist. His main claim to fame is his work on the early Tarzan and related books for Western Publishing that saw print through Dell Comics and later Gold Key Comics. He was the first artist to produce original Tarzan comic books. Up to that time, all Tarzan comics were reprints from the newspaper strips. He also worked on the Gene Autry comic for many years. Prior to working for Western, he had worked for the Walt Disney Company, doing animation work for Make Mine Music and some Pluto. He would turn over Tarzan to Russ Manning in 1965 due to failing health.

Bill Pearson 1938, artist, comic book scripter and letterer. During the 1970s and early 1980s, Pearson was an editor at Charlton Comics, where he designed and colored over 200 comic book covers. He scripted for numerous publishers, including Tower Comics, King Comics (Flash Gordon), Gold Key (Popeye), Charlton, Eclipse, Gladstone and Warren Publications. His work as an inker included Ocean's Popeye Special #1 and a Spider-Man spoof. For two decades (1975-95), he lettered for almost every comics publisher, and he was the first art director at Another Rainbow.

Susan Silo 1942, actress, Mousey - Batman (2 episodes, 1966), Sue - Christmas Comes to PacLand (1982) (TV) (voice), Nara - Robotix (1985) (V) (voice), Sandra Shore - InHumanoids: The Movie (1986) (V) (voice). Susan Silo began her voice-acting career as a talking cow in a series of Land O' Lakes Margarine commercials for over ten years. She has done voices for Hanna-Barbera, Marvel, Disney, Ruby-Spears, DIC, Film Roman, Murakami Wolf Swenson among others. Her famous roles are Wuya the Witch in Xiaolin Showdown, Dr Karbunkle in Biker Mice from Mars, White Queen on Pryde of the X-Men, multiple voices on What A Cartoon, Sue on Pac-Man. She also did the voice of Mama Mousekiwitz in Don Bluth's Fievel's American Tails. She has also done voices for video games, such as Crash Tag Team Racing and X-Men (arcade game), where she reprised the White Queen. She latter voiced Auntie Roon on The Life and Times of Juniper Lee and Flamestrike in Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight in 2008.

Jackson Beck 1912, actor/voice actor, best known as the announcer on radio's The Adventures of Superman and the voice of Bluto in the Famous era Popeye theatrical shorts. Beck had a career in radio, television, and animation dating from 1931 with Myrt and Marge, among other roles. In 1943, he took over as narrator of radio's The Adventures of Superman; it was Beck who intoned the familiar prologue "strange visitor from another planet..." Decades later, he portrayed Perry White, Clark Kent's boss in Filmation's The New Adventures of Superman animated series and was narrator as well. He also impersonated Joseph Stalin and other world leaders for the March of Time radio series, starred as The Cisco Kid on radio from 1942-1945 and sleuth Philo Vance in a syndicated series from 1948-1950, and served as narrator for the radio adventures of Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. Beck had a prolific career in animation, becoming one of the regular voice actors at Famous Studios in the mid-1940s. He voiced Bluto in the Popeye cartoons, Little Lulu's father, and Buzzy The Crow, who was a foil for Katnip the cat in a number of cartoons. Beck used a black dialect for the voice of Buzzy. He was also the voice of King Leonardo in the 1960s TV cartoon series of the same name. He narrated the 1980s G.I. Joe animated TV series. His other voice work included network TV promos (he did a series of promos for NBC's NFL coverage for much of the 1980s), narration for sketches on Saturday Night Live, movie trailers, and commercials for everything from toys to shampoo.

Seth Fisher 1972, comic book artist and penciller, first gained attention for his work on DC Comics' Green Lantern: Willworld, Fisher pencilled the five issue "Snow" story arc of the Batman series Legends of the Dark Knight, written by Dan Curtis Johnson and J.H. Williams III. Fisher provided the art for the Marvel mini-series Fantastic Four/Iron Man: Big in Japan (scripted by Zeb Wells) that appeared in 2005.

Emily Stone 1978, comic book artist, most known for artwork on Devil’s Due Publishing's HACK/Slash series. Ms. Stone's career in illustration has included a variety of other projects. This includes inking, penciling, or coloring The Ride (published by Image Comics), Jim Henson's comic Return to Labyrinth, and G.I. Joe comics/merchandise. She was also involved in the artwork for 160-page original graphic novel anthology, "Lloyd Kaufman Presents the Toxic Avenger and Other Tromatic Tales." Ms. Stone has drawn numerous pop-culture characters including Reanimator's Herbert West, the Suicide Girls, Milk & Cheese among others. Birthdays

Jamal Igle 1972, comic book artist, editor, art director and animation storyboard artist, Igle spent several months as a storyboard artist for several CGI animated series such as Max Steel and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. Iglel has worked in books ranging from The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the all-ages action miniseries Race Against Time as well as fill-in issues in mainstream titles such as Green Lantern, G.I.Joe, Martian Manhunter and Supergirl. With writer Jay Faerber has done several works: a four issue run on New Warriors and a Iron Fist/Wolverine miniseries for Marvel Comics, and Venture, a short-lived creator-owned series for Image Comics. He became the regular artist of DC Comics' ongoing Firestorm series, beginning with issue #8 (December 2004). In November 2006, DC Comics announced that Igle would be taking over as series artist of Nightwing.

Richard Pini 1950, part of the husband-and-wife team responsible for creating the well-known Elfquest series of comics, graphic novels and prose works.

Tracy Yardley 1979, comic book artist, best known for his work with the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, published by Archie Comics. He currently is still working on the same series since 2005 and was occasionly working in Archie Comics' now-ended side-series Sonic X. He is also serving as the main artist for the new side-series Sonic Universe. Yardley is also known to be the main penciler/inker of an original manga-like series known as Riding Shotgun, published by Tokyopop.

Jon Pertwee 1919, actor, best known for his role in the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who, where he played the third incarnation of the Doctor from 1970 to 1974, Spottyman - SuperTed (10 episodes, 1982-1986), Gen. Von Kramer - The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Attack of the Hawkmen (1995) (TV).

Gustavo "Gus" Arriola 1917, comic strip cartoonist and animator, primarily known for the comic strip Gordo, which ran from 1941 through 1985. Gordo was initially designed to be a Mexican version of Li'l Abner, with a highly caricatured style and a lazy overweight title character who spoke in heavily accented English and took naps under a tree wearing a sombrero. The character reflected popular conceptions of Mexicans at the time, particularly Leo Carrillo's portrayal of the Cisco Kid's sidekick, Pancho, on television and film. The strip introduced America to such now-popular words and phrases as "hasta la vista," "amigo," "piñata," "compadre," "muchacho" and "hasta mañana," as well as Mayan, Aztec, and Mexican customs, history, and folklore.

J. Michael Straczynski, writer and television producer. He works in films, television series, novels, short stories, comic books, and radio dramas. He is a playwright, a former journalist, and author of The Complete Book of Scriptwriting. He was the creator and showrunner for the science fiction TV series Babylon 5, and its spin-off Crusade, and Jeremiah. Straczynski wrote 92 out of the 110 Babylon 5 episodes, notably including an unbroken 59-episode run through the third and fourth seasons, and all but one episode of the fifth season. He wrote the four Babylon 5 TV movies produced alongside the series. Straczynski has long been a comic fan, and began writing comics in the late 1980s.
