Birthdays

Rick Leonardi 1957,comic book artist, His well-known works include various sporadic fill-in issues of The Uncanny X-Men and The New Mutants, as well as runs on Cloak and Dagger, Spider-Man 2099, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Green Lantern Versus Aliens. He is credited, along with fellow illustrator Mike Zeck, of designing the black-and-white costume to which Spider-Man switched during the 1984 Secret Wars miniseries, and later wore for a time.
Bob McLeod 1951, comic book artist, best known for co-creating the New Mutants with writer Chris Claremont.
Josh Neufeld 1967, alternative cartoonist known for his fact-based comics on subjects like Hurricane Katrina, international travel and finance, as well as his collaborations with writers like Harvey Pekar and David Greenberger.
Gene Luen Yang 1973, graphic novelist, artist who created the graphic novel American Born Chinese. American Born Chinese tells the story of Jin Wang, a son of Chinese immigrants, who struggles to assimilate at a predominately white school after moving from San Francisco's Chinatown to the suburbs. Jin's story is interwoven with the legend of the Chinese folk hero Monkey King, and a sitcom starring buck-toothed Chinese stereotype Cousin Chin-Kee.
Austin Briggs 1908, cartoonist, After working for a while at an advertising agency, he became an assistant to the cartoonist Alex Raymond on Flash Gordon and succeeded him on Secret Agent Corrigan. In 1940 he drew a Flash Gordon Daily strip which he stayed on until about 1944; he moved onto creating illustrations for books and magazines such as Readers Digest and The Saturday Evening Post. He was one of the founding faculty for the Famous Artists School.

Adam Nimoy 1956, television director. Nimoy is the son of actor Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy worked as an entertainment attorney before he began directing. His credits include episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5, Sliders, and The Outer Limits where he directed his father in the episode "I Robot".
