Birthdays

Gilbert Green 1914, actor, Ekosian-Star Trek:Original Series."Patterns of Force", Dr. Carson-My Favorite Martian,
B. "Hap" Kilban 1935, cartoonist, Kliban began to draw cartoons for Playboy magazine. In 1962, Kliban became a Playboy cartoonist, contributing cartoons until his death. He is best-known for the book Cat, a collection of cartoons about cats drawn in Kliban's distinctive style. The cat cartoons were discovered by a Playboy editor and the 1975 book Cat was born. This led to several other books of cartoons ending with Advanced Cartooning in 1993. After Kilban's death his second wife Judith Kamman Kliban later married actor Bill Bixby shortly before Bixby's death in 1993.
Jerry Robinson 1922, comic book artist best known for his work on DC Comics' Batman line of comics during the 1940s. In 1943, when Kane left the Batman comic books to focus on penciling the daily Batman newspaper comic strip, Robinson took over the full penciling, along with others such as Dick Sprang. As was customary of the time, only Kane's name appeared on the strip. He was president of the National Cartoonists Society from 1967 to 1969 and served a two year term as president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists starting in 1973.
Tony Salmons 1957, alternative comic book artist, film storyboard artist and character designer. Notable work is Vigilante: City Lights, Prairie Justice, Batman: Gotham Knights, Captain America: Red, White & Blue, Dakota North, Savage Sword of Conan, Marvel Fanfare, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Batman: The Animated Series.
Nelson Leigh 1905, actor, Edward Preston - Brick Bradford (1947), Jor-El - Father of Superman - Superman (1948)[Ch. 1], Dr. Kenneth C. Norton - Creature with the Atom Brain (1955), Doctor Carr - Sheena: Queen of the Jungle (1 episode, "Forbidden Cargo", 1955), General Black / General Connors - Steve Canyon (2 episodes, 1958-1959), General Adams - Men Into Space (1 episode, "Into the Sun", 1960), Preacher - The Time Tunnel (1 episode, "End of the World", 1966).
William Woggon 1911, cartoonist, created the comic book Katy Keene. By 1938, he was assisting Elmer in lettering and then drawing the latter's newspaper comic strip Big Chief Wahoo, which later metamorphosed into Steve Roper and Mike Nomad. Woggon kept working on his own ideas for a comic book. Inspired by wartime pinup girls, in 1945, he created Katy Keene, beginning in Wilbur Comics and taking advantage of its teen market. It became a success during the next ten years, spawning fan clubs and pen pals. Katy Keene featured fashionable young beauty Katy (a model with "traditional values"), who had a pestering little sister, a stream of suitors and dreams of becoming an actress. The stories were not overly inspired and mainly served to put Katy through as many successive wardrobe changes as possible in order to show off reader-submitted fashions that Woggon drew and credited to them (a feature adopted by Dixie Dugan as well). Paper dolls with other outfits for Katy also increased the comic's appeal. It continued through the 1950s in various outlets (Katy Keene Pinup Parade, Laugh Comics, and Pep Comics, and Archie Comics). When it ended in 1961, Woggon turned to other work, such as the Dell comic Millie the Lovable Monster, ghosting the newspaper strip Priscilla's Pop and creating the Archie feature The Twiddles.
Richard Kean 1881, actor, B.B Eyes / Vitamin Flintheart - Dick Tracy (2 episodes, 1951).
