Birthdays

Creig Flessel 1912, comic book artist, an illustrator and cartoonist for magazines ranging from Boys' Life to Playboy. Flessel drew the covers of many of the first American comic books, including the pre-Batman Detective Comics #2-19 (April 1937 - September 1938). Flessel, who drew many early adventures of the Golden Age Sandman, through the 1950s, including Superboy stories in both that character's namesake title and in Adventure Comics; and anthological mystery and suspense tales in American Comics Group (AGC's) Adventures into the Unknown.

Alden McWilliams 1916, comic book artist, McWilliams started in pulp magazines. McWilliams worked on titles such as Captain Frank Hawk, Crimebusters, Space Cadets, Stratosphere Jim, Flash Gordon, Spitfire, Captain Flag, Steve Wood, Sergeant Spook and Skid Davis. In 1952 McWilliams began working on the science-fiction daily 'Twin Earths', which was written by Oskar Lebeck. In 1963, McWilliams moved onto Davy Jones (a sea adventure strip then in 1968 "Dateline: Danger!" which he drew until 1974. McWilliams drew the 'Star Trek' and 'Buck Rogers' newspapers strips, and assisted on Rip Kirby. Other comics he was created for was work on Man from UNCLE and I Spy.
