Milton Arthur Paul Caniff 1907, cartoonist famous for the Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon comic strips. Milton also wrote episodes for the series on TV. Terry and the Pirates (10 episodes, 1953), Steve Canyon (33 episodes, 1958-1959). He sold his first cartoon to the Dayton Daily Journal when he was 12. He was a stickler for accuracy in his drawings of weaponry. He had contacts in the armed forces who kept him up-to-date on military lingo and procedures. He was grateful to readers who caught mistakes in his strips.
John Tenniel 1820, cartoonist, He drew many topical cartoons and caricatures for Punch in the late 19th century, including the iconic dropping the pilot, but is best remembered today for his illustrations in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.
