Daily Birthdays and Events in Sci-Fi, Comics and related areas

February 11, 2010

Out There, Men into Space, DS9, Iron Giant, Dollhouse, Predator, Ginger Grant, Quark, Tales of Tomorrow, Seahunt debuted.

Today is cool because two people (Leslie Nielsen and Kim Stanley) are having birthdays that appeared in the short lived science fiction television show called "Out There". The program was broadcast on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. EST on CBS Television from October 28, 1951 thru January 13, 1952. It only lasted twelve episodes before being cancelled. The program featured episodes adapted from stories by (and in some cases written by) authors including Robert A. Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, Theodore Sturgeon, John D. McDonald, Murray Leinster, Frank Belknap Long and Milton Lesser.

Speaking of sci-fi writers, Jane Yolen and Daniel Galouye are both celebrating a birthday.

Finally, for all those adolescent boys who grew up in the late 60's and wanted to be stuck on the island with Ginger Grant from Gilligan's Island, it's Tina Louise's birthday.
