Birthdays

Jack Binder 1902, Golden Age comics creator and art packager. A fine artist by education, Binder had a prolific comics career that lasted from 1937-1946, then continued from "semi-retirement" until 1953. He was the creator of the original comic book Daredevil, for Lev Gleason Publications. One of Binder's younger brothers was comic book writer Otto Binder.
Jim Lee 1964, comic book artist, writer and publisher. Lee was hired by Marvel Comics editor Carl Potts to work on the Marvel title Alpha Flight, seguéing from that title in 1988 to Punisher: War Journal. In 1989 Lee filled in for regular illustrator Marc Silvestri on Uncanny X-Men #248 and did another guest stint on issues #256 through #258 as part of the "Acts of Vengeance" storyline, eventually becoming the series' ongoing artist as of #267 when Silvestri left. In 1991, Lee helped launch a second X-Men series simply called X-Men, not only as the artist, but also as co-writer with long-time X-Men scribe Chris Claremont. He also co-created Gambit with writer Chris Claremont and the villain Omega Red with Brandon Choi. In 1992, Lee was one of six artists who broke away from Marvel to form Image Comics. Lee returned to Marvel in 1996 to participate in a reboot of several classic characters; the project was known as Heroes Reborn. In late 1998, however, Lee left Image Comics and sold Wildstorm to DC Comics.
Morris Weiss 1915, comic book and comic strip artist and writer, Active from the 1930s through the mid-1970s, he created the teen-comedy character "Margie" for Timely Comics, the 1940s predecessor of Marvel Comics, and was the final cartoonist on the comic strip Mickey Finn. He broke into the comics field as the letterer for two years of the comic strip The Katzenjammer Kids, and then following his first stint with Mickey Finn from 1936-1943, Weiss transitioned further into comic books. His earliest known credit was penciler and inker of the six-page feature "Boxie Weaver" in Holyoke Publications' Blue Beetle #28-30 (Dec. 1943 - Feb. 1944) and Sparkling Stars #9 (Feb. 1945), that lasat of which he signed with the pseudonym Ink Higgins. Other early Weiss features for Holyoke include "Private Plopp" and "Petey and Pop". In 1946, he did his first known work for Timely Comics, the 1940s forerunner of Marvel Comics, writing and drawing the title character's stories in the career-gal humor comic Tessie the Typist. He went on to do numerous stories featuring Tessie and her friend Skidsy, and created the teen-humor feature "Margie", which ran in Margie Comics, Georgie Comics and Patsy Walker. In 1955 he began drawing the Adventures of Pinky Lee, a comic written by Stan Lee.
Ryan Winn 1976, comic book artist and writer, He is most well known for his work on Spawn, Hiding in Time, and The Darkness for Top Cow. Announced on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at San Diego Comic-Con International, he has started work as an inker on WildCats for Wildstorm Comics[1]. His work on The Darkness earned him a Harvey Award nomination for Best Inker, announced June 30, 2009.
