Birthdays

John Costanza 1943, artist and letterer who has worked in the American comic book industry. He has worked for both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. He was the letterer during Alan Moore's acclaimed run on Swamp Thing. The bulk of Costanza's art assignments have been for funny animal comics and children's oriented material.
Ralph Barton 1891, cartoonist, best known for his cartoons and caricatures of actors and other celebrities. Barton's first caricature was of Thomas Hart Benton; his last, of Charlie Chaplin. In between he knew everyone and drew everyone in the social and culture scene of New York. Some of his most famous works were group drawings, and perhaps the most noted was a stage curtain created for a 1922 revue, depicting an "audience" of 139 faces looking back at the real theater-goers.
Peter Blegvad 1951, singer-songwriter, and cartoonist, From 1992 to 1999, The Independent ran Blegvad's strangely surreal, comic strip, Leviathan, which received much critical praise for blending some of the most interesting elements of Krazy Kat with a coming-of-age-esque story akin to Calvin and Hobbes. Some of the strips have been collected in the 2001 volume The Book of Leviathan. Other comics and illustrations by Blegvad have appeared in The Ganzfeld and Ben Katchor's Picture Story 2.
Tad Horino 1921, actor, Squeaky - Dimension 5 (1966), Yamura, Sr. - The New Adventures of Wonder Woman (1 episode, "Seance of Terror", 1978), Sam Wo - Galaxina (1980), Swordmaster - Red Sonja (1985), Market Owner - Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories (1 episode, "Blue Man Down", 1987), Grandfather - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993).
Brannon Braga 1965, television producer and screenwriter, currently working as executive producer on 24[1] and the science fiction series FlashForward, where he is also credited as co-creator. Braga is probably best known for his work with the Star Trek franchise, having worked on all the modern Star Trek television series since 1990 and two of the Star Trek feature films, as well as being co-creator and an executive producer of Star Trek: Enterprise. He was also creator and producer of the short-lived alien invasion drama Threshold.
