Some of the best golden age comic covers were done by Alex Schomburg. The colors and situations were always the reason I loved his work.

Birthdays

Maryesther Denver 1918, actress, Third Witch - Star Trek (1 episode, "Catspaw", 1967), Overseer - Project X (1968).
Alex Schomburg 1905, comic book artist and painter, During the 1930s, Schomburg freelanced Better Publications, producing interior line art for Thrilling Wonder Stories and other of the company's pulp magazines. His skill at drawing anything mechanical soon had him illustrating aviation covers for Flying Aces and electronic equipment for the Hugo Gernsback pulp Radio Craft. Schomburg's first science fiction-themed cover was for the September 1939 issue of Startling Stories. The following decade, Schomburg freelanced primarily for Timely Comics, displaying his talent for slam-bang action tableau. In dynamic covers featuring Captain America, the Sub-Mariner, the Human Torch, Schomburg filled every square inch with flamboyant characters, flames, knives, guns, explosions, Nazis, Japanese, and pretty girls in need of rescue. He mastered the use of the airbrush, signing many of his airbrushed covers "Xela". Schomburg drew between five and six hundred covers during this the golden age period. In the early 1950s, Schomburg left comics and spent the remainder of his career on covers for science fiction magazines and book covers, including the Winston juvenile series.
Robert Triptow 1952, cartoonist, He succeeded Howard Cruse as editor of Gay Comix, from issue #5 (1984) through issue #13 (1991). As a cartoonist, his contributions to Gay Comix began with issue #2. His 1989 anthology Gay Comics is one of the earliest histories of the subject, and won the first Lambda Literary Award for Humor.

Gary Owens 1936, actor / voice actor, He's best known as the voice of Space Ghost on Space Ghost. He also was himself on Space Ghost Coast to Coast in 1998. Gary Owens was the voice of Roger Ramjet on The Roger Ramjet Cartoons. He is currently the voice of the over-the-air digital network Antenna TV.
