It's a great day when you can announce that Carl Barks birthday is today. He would have been 109 today, but amazingly he lived to the ripe old age of 99. Carl once said, "It wasn't genius or even unusual talent that made the stories good, it was patience and a large waste-basket."

Carl Barks 1901, Disney Studio illustrator and comic book creator, who invented Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck (1947), Gladstone Gander (1948), the Beagle Boys (1951), Gyro Gearloose (1952), Flintheart Glomgold (1956), John D. Rockerduck (1961) and Magica De Spell (1961). Carl also was the writer on 40 different shorts or series. He also was an animator for the 1936 Disney animation short "Thru the Mirror".
