Noel Neill is having a birthday today. She has the notoriety of having been a part of the Superman franchise for 59 years first playing the part of Lois Lane in 1947 and subsequently moving on to playing Lois's mother and ending her reign in 2006's Superman Returns movie. Such a long career deserves a second look.

Birthdays

Paul Murry 1911, cartoonist and comics artist. He is best known for his Disney comics, which appeared in Dell Comics and Gold Key Comics from 1946 to 1984. In the 1940s, Murry worked on Disney newspaper strips, including the Sunday Uncle Remus and His Tales of Brer Rabbit strip from the first installment on October 14, 1945 through July 14, 1946. He is best known for his rendition of Mickey Mouse and associated characters. This includes serials starring Mickey and Goofy in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories and Mickey Mouse Magazine. Murry also drew such characters as Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, Brer Rabbit, The Sleuth, and others. The Phantom Blot and Super Goof comic books contained many Murry stories.
Pierre Camille Lucien Hilaire Jean Bellocq 1926, cartoonist, At age 19, the French racing journal France Courses gave him national exposure when they published one of his cartoons of a jockey. Bellocq signed the drawing as "Peb", a signature which would become his lifelong moniker. Within a few years Peb was widely known and an emerging artist who also gained recognition for his caricatures on sports advertising posters. Pierre Bellocq has produced several books; his first consisted of 150 cartoons and was titled Peb's Equine Comedy. It was published by Random House in 1957 and is still in print.

Poul William Anderson 1926, science fiction author who began his career during one of the Golden Ages of the genre and continued to write and remain popular into the 21st century. Anderson also authored several works of fantasy, historical novels and a prodigious number of short stories. He received numerous awards for his writing, including seven Hugo Awards and three Nebula Awards. He was the sixth President of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, taking office in 1972.
